Dr. Sumayya Juma Obaid Juma Almarzooqi is a highly accomplished Consultant Neuro-Ophthalmologist with over 28 years of clinical experience in ophthalmology across the UAE and internationally. She holds an MBBS from the University of Jordan, along with the Jordanian and Arab Boards in Ophthalmology, and a Fellowship in Neuro-Ophthalmology from Houston Methodist Hospital, USA. Currently, she is pursuing a Master’s in Leadership in Health Professions Education at the University of Sharjah, reflecting her commitment to continuous growth and medical excellence.
Throughout her distinguished career, Dr. Sumayya has served in several leading healthcare institutions, including Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City (in partnership with Mayo Clinic), Burjeel Medical City, and Mafraq Hospital in Abu Dhabi, where she also served as the Residency Program Director for Ophthalmology. Her experience extends across clinical practice, education, and leadership, where she has played a key role in developing ophthalmology programs and mentoring young specialists in the UAE.
Dr. Sumayya’s field of expertise covers a broad range of neuro-ophthalmic disorders, including optic neuropathies, papilledema, idiopathic intracranial hypertension, visual field defects, ocular cranial nerve disorders, diplopia, neurogenic ptosis, and pupillary abnormalities. She is renowned for her precise diagnostic skills and multidisciplinary approach in managing complex neurological and visual pathway conditions.
A member of the North American Neuro-Ophthalmology Society (NANOS), the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and the UAE Ophthalmology Society, Dr. Sumayya combines international standards of care with compassionate, patient-centered treatment. Fluent in Arabic and English, she is dedicated to enhancing eye and neurological health through advanced clinical expertise and innovation.
